One Glance, After All These Years

POETRY

by Nathaniel Cairney

Silver sunglasses, a star under a star.
          You saunter up the walk,

my French mime, my tightrope
          walker, my destroyer

of right thinkers, my sound
          sleeper in a fragile home,

my creator of the love I give
          away, like it’s

grass seed or pollen or oxygen,
          so abundant it seems.

Nathaniel Cairney is an American poet and novelist who currently lives in Belgium. His chapbook Singing Dangerously of Sinking was a finalist for the 2021 Saguaro Prize in Poetry, and his poems have been published in Midwest Review, Broad River Review, California Quarterly, and other literary journals.
